Term 2

Geography

It has been a good start to Year 2, the children have settled into routines well and have done some fantastic learning. They are making strong friendships and are always keen to ask questions and find out more about the world around them.

In Term 2, we will be looking at Geography in Humanities and specifically at Oceans and Continents. There will be opportunities to develop our vocabulary with many new key words and phrases being shared throughout the term.

PE sessions take place on Mondays (Dance) and Wednesdays (Net and Wall). Children should come to school wearing their PE kit, including suitable footwear (trainers), and make sure that they have a water bottle. Please also ensure they come in with a waterproof top.

In Writing our focus text will be "The Adventures of the Egg Box Dragon" by Richard Adams. We will use this lovely story to develop our skills in coordination, past tense and different types of sentences.

The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon: Richard Adams

Our D&T topic will be related to The Adventures Of The Egg Box Dragon and we can't wait to see what arts and crafts our creative cohort comes up with. Will they be able to make their own mythical creatures from an egg box?

In Science, we will be learning all about different materials  and their properties; are all metals shiny? Does all wood float? We will look at the answer to these and the myriad of questions that are likely to come up.

Reading:

Reading records are to be brought in daily. Please make sure that you are listening to your child read during the week and record this in their books.

Some of our children will still be cementing their phonics skills and if this is the case please help them out at home. If you would like some tips on how to support them with their phonics at home, please let any of the Year 2 Team know and we will happily help.
